Nurse Clinics Our team of highly experienced Veterinary Nurses offer a whole range of services that are not only beneficial to your pet, but also interesting and informative for you. From nail clipping to suture removal, our nurses are here with help and advice towards your pets' general healthcare and well-being.
Guidance is given on exercise, diet, weight control, worming, flea treatments and they can even show you how to clean your pets' teeth. Have our nurses give your pet a nose to tail check of their skin, ears, teeth and for any signs of lumps or bumps. Elderly pets can visit for tips on special care in their senior years. Information is also available on the Well-pet Blood Screening Profile, PETS Passport, and microchipping. At the clinic you can have a friendly chat about any worries you may have concerning your pet and the great news is that most of our Nurse Clinics are free.

Well-pet Health Assessment & Blood Screening Profile for Senior Pets
Just as in human medicine, heart conditions, kidney dysfunction, high blood pressure or thyroid illness develop very slowly at first and can often be significantly advanced before becoming clinically obvious. Early identification of a problem leads to a quicker diagnosis, making it easier to treat the disease, so greatly improving the chances of a happy outcome.
Our veterinary nurses offer a Well-pet Health Assessment check up totally free of charge for cats over 12 years old and dogs over 10 (giant breeds over 8).

In addition we can provide to all these patients who are not currently undergoing medical treatment, a Well-pet Blood Screening Profile to detect the early signs of disease.

Repeat Prescriptions
Dispensing the correct medication is very important. In some cases we may need the vet to authorise the prescription and if they are busy operating, it could be the end of the day before we can speak with them. Occasionally a special medication may need ordering from our suppliers and this can take up to a day to reach us.
If your pet is on a long-term course of treatment with us, it is required by law that our vet examines your pet at regular intervals, so you may be asked to bring your pet along for a check up before further medication can be dispensed.

To ensure that we give you and your pet our best attention at all times, please note we require 24 HOURS NOTICE
for repeat prescriptions.

Referrals
Here at Marks Farm our fully equipped veterinary centre has a wide range of surgical and diagnostic facilities. This enables us to carry out investigations and treatments to a very high standard. However sometimes it is necessary for us to refer our patients to specialist centres. We have excellent contacts with many of these centres, where veterinary specialists can provide the best possible care using their great knowledge and experience, which they have developed in their particular field of veterinary medicine and surgery.

Pet Insurance
Veterinary medicine has advanced
greatly over the years and this now
enables us to treat and diagnose a wide
range of conditions that may previously have been incurable. Accidents and sudden illness can happen to your much-loved pet when you are least expecting them and at such an anxious time, it is comforting to know that we are here.

However, treating your pet can often incur expensive procedures, and the last thing you need is the added worry of costs. It is advisable to consider life-long insurance for your pet, so instead of worrying about the financial expense of tests, operations and treatments, you can relax knowing that your chosen insurance company can help to cover the cost. There are many policies available and they are all different, so it is important to read them thoroughly to see exactly what they include.

Pet Blood Bank
At times an animal requires a blood transfusion and for some dogs, it may be their only chance of survival. We are lucky enough to have a Pet Blood Bank to call on and of course as in the human world, blood donors are always required to keep stocks plentiful. If you feel that your pet could become a donor and would like more information please log on to www.petbloodbankuk.org
However despite this blood bank facility, occasionally in cases of extreme emergency, a donor is required at very short notice. If your dog weighs 25kg or over and you would be interested in allowing your pet to be an emergency donor please contact the surgery.

Identity Microchipping
No pet owner wants to lose their pet but unfortunately this can happen no matter how careful we are. So to protect them against possible loss, we would advise you to have your pet microchipped. A tiny chip, which has an I.D. code unique to you and your pet, is injected under your pet's skin, holding details that are stored on a central database, which is accessible 24 hours a day. A special scanner, which is held by various rescue centres, dog wardens and veterinary practices, is used to read the details to identify the lost animal. A quick telephone call and this simple, reliable and permanent means of identification reunites lost pets with their owners.
Just a routine appointment with the vet or one of our Veterinary Nurses is required and it's as simple as having your pet vaccinated.

PETS Passport
Since the introduction in February 2000 of the PETS Passport, hundreds and thousands of people have availed of the opportunity to travel between countries with their pets. For those of you considering the step for the first time, it really is simple to prepare your pet for travel and we are here to help you both through the process to obtain the necessary documents. However, if you are planning on taking your pet with you and returning to the UK, then remember to allow 7-8 months before embarking on your travels. Prescription Diets
For some pets it is necessary for the vet to prescribe a special diet to help with a particular condition they may have such as arthritis, obesity, intestinal sensitivities, organ dysfunction, food allergies or skin disorders. We stock a wide range of high quality prescription diets by Royal Canin. If your pet is on a prescribed diet and you need to re-order please call our surgery where a member of staff will be able to assist you.
